Maria is currently the National Director of Access and Achievement at Benchmark Education Company. As a member of the Strategic Partnerships Team she supports district and school based leadership in building effective schools, literacy, issues of equity, multi-lingual learners, special education and supporting organizational planning. She also supports the BEC editorial team on several projects. She is a recipient of the national 2024 Excellence in Equity Award from the American Consortium for Equity in Education.
Prior to joining BEC, Maria had over three decades of experience in education in administrative, consulting and teaching roles. As adjunct faculty she focused on educational leadership, data analysis, trauma informed response, content literacy, race and urban education.
